It’s amazing just how much your day can be improved by simply hearing your name used when out running the errands that can often become so mundane. Name usage is a huge customer pleaser, and an easy way to make a customer feel as though they are special. I am not talking about the cashier at the grocery store who looks right at the receipt and says your name from reading it off of there, but the cashier or service professional who sincerely uses your name to make you feel welcome. Think of a restaurant that you frequent often, do they know who you are when you come into the door or do they treat you just like anyone else. I am more inclined to go the place that not only uses my name, but uses it sincerely. Using a customer name is so important because it makes them feel important and as though they are more than just a customer, more like a friend.
One company who does a great job of this it the Westin Hotel. Every time I visit them I am pleased with not only how they use my name, but also in that they keep record of the number of times I have stayed with them. They will welcome you back, mention that they are happy you have stayed with them x amount of years, and ask if there is anything that they can do this visit to make you feel more at home. This along with using my name makes me not just feel like another guest, but like someone who is really a friend and valued customer.
